Gathering Protocols – October 5, 2021
With the release of the new public health order on October 1st , 2021 the following will be observed at our church.
Holy mass on Weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays: we are allowed to have 33% of the church capacity which is about 90 people so there is not change for our church capacity from what we have been doing for the last few months.
Weddings, Funerals and Baptisms are restricted to 25 people starting October 12, 2021. The presider, one cantor, one accompanist, one lector, and the live-streaming team do not count toward the restrictions.
Parishes in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg will NOT require parishioners to present proof of double vaccination.
Mask wearing and physical distancing is required as we have been doing for last few months.
The general dispensation from Sunday obligation to attend mass has been extended to November 21st.
What is a Sunday Obligation?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states in number 2181:
“The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.”
The dispensation means that this obligation is lifted for the time being and if you fail to attend mass on Sundays during the dispensation period you do not commit a grave sin and remain in the state of grace and thus do not need to go to confession for “missing” mass.
This dispensation is a way to give you the freedom to decide whether it is safe for you to attend the mass during this time of pandemic without the pressure of the Sunday obligation.
