Priests from the Archdiocese of Winnipeg area, together with their Archbishop Most Reverend Richard Gagnon, stayed from April 29th until May 3rd at the Wilderness Edge Retreat and Conference Centre in Pinawa for their yearly spiritual retreat which this year was led by The Most Reverend Fred Henry, Bishop Emeritus of Calgary.

Located near the conference centre is the chapel devoted to St. Francis of Assisi where the priests, together with the Archbishop, gathered to glorify the Eucharistic celebration and hold their spiritual talks.

At the start of the retreat, in the chapel of St. Francis of Assisi, Bishop Henry stated that a spiritual retreat is a time when we walk in silence, we walk together with Jesus, allowing Him to speak to us. Jesus always took his disciples somewhere separate, in silence, so that they may be still, to recover and refill their batteries, to be still and simply to be with Him.

This was also an opportunity to reflect together and share experiences, it was also a time to discuss priestly life in today’s society and world.

During these four full days of spiritual retreat priests together pray the liturgy of hours, celebrate mass, spend time in contemplation and private prayer, and participate in devotions such as the rosary and solemn adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
