Advent 2019 – Sacrament of Reconciliation

In the season of Advent we are preparing for the Second Coming of Christ at the end of times and for His First Coming as a lowly child in the manger at Christmas.

However there is a “third coming.” Christ draws to us at every moment of our life! Jesus is madly in love with you – He thirsts for your love. A privileged way to encounter Him is through the Sacraments.
In the Sacrament of Reconciliation we encounter Christ the Healer because this Sacrament is one of the Sacraments of Healing. As you know sin hurts the whole body of Christ including the one who commits it. The fathers of the Church speak of sin as a wound. In confessing my sins I acknowledge that I am a weak human being who needs God. I promise to amend my ways to leave sin behind and to start a new life in Christ. It is only in Christ that I can have true joy and peace.

As in our daily relationships we need to ask for pardon and receive forgiveness so it is in our relationship with God. This Advent let us be reconciled with God and the Church (people of God) by receiving God’s healing mercy and love. “Let us not get tired of asking for forgiveness. First of all, God always forgives us. He never tires of this. It’s we who get tired of asking for forgiveness.” (Pope Francis, January 23, 2015)
