2023 Confirmation Rally

Charlotte B., Catechism Coordinator:
On Saturday April 29 th the confirmation candidates (Brady, Daniella, Josip) , Petra and I attended the Confirmation Rally organized by the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, with theme being “on fire.” It was a wonderful event that brought together many candidates from different parishes for study, prayer and fellowship. There are 7 gifts that the Holy Spirit bestows on us wisdom, understanding, knowledge, fortitude, counsel, piety and fear of the Lord. With the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation, we are strengthening our relationship with Christ, which is one of the lessons I hope the candidates took home with them.
We started off the morning with a Eucharistic celebration with Archbishop Richard Gagnon. All of us were then enlightened at the rally as, His Grace, Archbishop Gagnon was our first speaker and he spoke about the Sacrament of Confirmation. We took away many lessons that day but there is one that stood out. The Archbishop spoke that often many believe that confirmation is like a graduation and that when you receive confirmation you are done, but what he said after really left us with a thought to ponder. He said that Confirmation is also a time to “make our faith our own”. How are YOU going to continue with your faith, and make your faith your own. Some of the suggestions from the candidates were to
incorporate faith in their daily lives, serve the church, make time for God in prayer. These were just some examples of many that were mentioned. Though our parents/godparents may have guided us along the way, Confirmation is now a time where we must take responsibility for our own faith and decide how we are going to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit to further our faith.
The day continued with wonderful speakers and activities. At the end of the day the candidates were asked to write a letter to God about what their expectations are after Confirmation. Once the letter was written they were asked to seal it in an envelope. The idea being that on their Confirmation anniversary they will open it up and see how they have fulfilled their expectations. I hope that they all enjoy reading those letters a year later and that all their expectations are met.
We would like to congratulate the Candidates on their hard work preparing for the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation as we keep the candidates and their families in our prayers. We look forward to celebrating with you on June 6 at 7:00PM!
